About Danny Gillespie
Wild bird, Cage and aviary bird art commissions, illustrations, studies,
Compositions and greeting cards
I attended a school in South east London, where I enjoyed art, concentrating all of my efforts into this subject and was rather neglectful of others.
I would often go on bird watching trips which would inspire me to paint, on my return.
I have painted in oils but prefer the detail I can achieve with water colours.
After leaving school at 16 I had a couple of jobs, unfortunately neither of which were associated with art.
I joined the Parachute Regiment at 22 which would mean for a while my bird watching days were over, though on more than one occasion I found myself searching the welsh country side for the odd rare bird, when perhaps I should have been concentrating on things more military.
When I left the army I did what many ex service personnel do, I went into the security industry which I did for a number of years.
In recent years though, I have managed to re-kindle my love for birds, bird watching and bird art. I have kept and flown a barn owl, Harris hawk and a sparrow hawk though not at the same time. I have bred many different birds and enjoy attending various bird shows around the country.
I find much of my inspiration from bird watching trips my favourite being along the west coast of Scotland, both the scenery and atmosphere is truly amazing.
